Tax and Accounting Tip of the Month

This has been a super crazy Spring for all of us!  We're still here, and still working as fast as we can.  Right now, issues dealing with the personal and business fallout from COVID-19 are consuming our office.

Many of your are curious about your proposed Stimulus payment from the IRS.  If you actually qualify for the rebate, it seems the only people getting the first wave of payments are either folks who don't file returns but have Social Security, or people who filed a 2018 return, had a refund, and had that refund directly deposited.

When you log onto the IRS website at www.irs.gov and look for the Get My Payment link, many of you are getting the message Payment Status Not Available. You didn't do anything wrong!  It's just that your 2018 returns was most likely either a zero balance return, you applied a refund to 2019, you had a balance and paid with a check, or you had a balance and you paid with direct debit.  The IRS is aware there's an issue with their website and they're working to get it corrected.   We don't have a time table yet when this will happen but we're checking constantly for an update.  We'll keep you posted.

If you filed 2018 with a refund and haven't received your Stimulus, there may be a way on the IRS website to get your banking information updated. Contact our office if you have questions about whether this applies to you and how we can assist. You can also check the IRS website directly.

Give us a call if you have any questions!  In the mean time, we urge everyone to be patient.  This complicated process was never going to be without a few wrinkles, many of which they're just now figuring out.
