What a crazy year this has been for all of us! It's hard to imagine that tax season 2022 is just around the corner! At this point, we have no idea just what it will look like, but there are some things you can keep in mind as the next tax year approaches.
You can still consider taking advantage of Arizona tax credits for your 2021 return. This is a great opportunity to support local public and private schools, as well as a variety of charities, and get a dollar for dollar nonrefundable credit on your Arizona return. There are four major individual credits in play for 2021. In fact, you can make donations that qualify for a 2021 state tax credit all the way up to the filing deadline of April 18, 2022!
Check out the Arizona Department of Revenue website at www.azdor.gov and click on the Tax Credits tab. You'll find information for the Qualifying Charitable Organization credit (QCO) which is a maximum of $400 for single filers and $800 for married filers. There's also the Qualifying Foster Care Organization credit (QFCO) which is a maximum of $500 for single filers and $1000 for married filers. Your public school tax credits can be up to $200 for single filers and $400 for married filers, and the Private School Tuition (which has two parts) can be a whopping $1219 for single filers or $2435 for married filers! You can potentially do all four tax credits at this point - we can help walk you through the process.
Another thing to consider if you want to support QCO and QFCO organizations and you're not sure which organizations are involved? Check out the website at www.givelocalkeeplocal.org for a great clearinghouse of over 30 different local organizations that have banded together to get the word out about the great options available for you!
For 2022, those four tax credits are available, and the PSTO has been increased to $1243 for single filers and $2483 for married. In addition, the Arizona Military Family Relief credit is available for 2022, $200 single and $400 married.
